The Throw Out moves the dancers from Closed Position to Open Position. There are three different types of basic Throw-Outs: (1) Rock Step Throw-Out; (2) Shotgun Throw-Out; (3) Sling Shot Throw-Out. Each will be defined here since the woman may encounter any of the previously mentioned types. There are also other types of Throw-Outs which will be defined later.
Where is the Slot in Closed Position? First consider the Frame which is in the form of a "V" - with the partners hinged at the hips. The Slot is right down the center of that "V".
Rhythm Unit Cards: Double, Triple, Triple.
Both dancers rock back in-place on counts [1 2].
Frame: Closed Position (Swing) - in the "V" formation with center of the "V" in direction of the slot.

"&a1": The key to making this work is that both dancers move their CPBs slightly back on "&", change direction of momentum on "a", then go forward into the ladies forward step on "1".
Throw-Out: The man does a Sling Shot Throw-Out in 2nd Foot Position. The sling shot Throw-Out could also be done in 4th Foot Position, but that is not the example shown here.
Slot: Down the center of the "V".
On counts [1 2] the man's footwork is the same as for a standard Shotgun Throw-Out, but the woman's footwork is the same as for a Rock Step Throw-Out. That means on count "1" they are going in opposite directions (Contra Direction), then coming back together on count "2" with the woman continuing down the Slot on [3 & 4].
Frame: Closed Position (Swing) - Leader facing cross-slot (perpindicular); Follower facing down-slot.
