Many dance teachers choose the Simple Version of this Step Pattern because it is easier to keep the Follower in the slot while traveling and it also prevents the Follower from charging into the Leader on the Anchor. To get the Advanced Version to work correctly the teacher will have to teach the Follower to spot down-slot while traveling and make sure they don't charge into the Leader on the Anchor.
The purpose of this simple version is to introduce the Leader to methods of clearing the Slot using his Left Rail and how to control the Leader's Left Hand Lead such that the Follower can execute an Underarm Pass. This simple version also insures that the follower will travel straight down the slot and stay out on the end. The Follower executes a [Walk Walk] on counts [1 2], a [Run Run Run] on counts [3 & 4] and a simple anchor [Bk Fwd Back] on counts [5 & 6].

This exercise is danced with a partner (Adjusted Pattern). The Leader lifts his Left Hand up and moves it straight down the slot. The Leader does not pull the Follower or crank the Follower into the Underarm Pass. The Follower goes straight down the slot directly through the position where the Leader was at the beginning of the Step Pattern. The Leader clears the slot by stepping toward the Left Rail on counts [1 2] so the Follower can have room to pass and turn. The Follower must not squeeze the Leader's hand or use the Leader for balance. The Follower must execute everything under their own power. If the Leader uses any force at all it will throw the Follower off balance.
Frame: Open Position - L: Lh Lead.
Repeat previous step pattern.
This exercise introduces the Leader to methods of clearing the Slot using his Left Rail and how to control the Leader's Left Hand Lead such that the Follower can execute an Underarm Pass. The Follower executes a [Side Cross Side] on counts [3 & 4] and a Coaster Anchor on counts [5 & 6]. The Follower must focus on traveling straight down slot and not charging into the Leader on count 6 of the Coaster Anchor.
