Right Side-By-Side

Of the following two types of Patterns, it is suggested that Pattern Type 1 be taught first since it is the most common of the two types used in Waltz.

PATTERN TYPE 1 - W:1-1/2 Rt Turn (CW)

Pattern Type 1 uses a Woman's 1-1/2 Rt Turn (CW) getting into the pattern. The Woman's final 1/2 Rt Turn (CW) ends on count "1" of a following Step Pattern.

IMPORTANT POINTS

M: Hand change Lead from Lh to Rh on count "6".
M: Picks up W:Lh with M:Rh on count "1" of next Pattern.

PATTERN TYPE 2 - W:Rt Turn (CW) + W:Lt Turn (CC)

Pattern Type 2 uses a Woman's Rt Turn (CW) followed by a Woman's Lt Turn (CC) getting into the pattern.

This Pattern exits the dancers into Closed Position in LOD.

Incomplete Step Pattern

This is not a complete Step Pattern since it ends up leaving Opposite Foot Free. Another Step Pattern must follow that will work its way to completion leaving the Same Foot Free.
